Not Your Average Accountant

“There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise.” -Unknown

I received my bachelor’s in accounting in December of 2014. Since then I’ve had a couple decent jobs but none better than the amazing accounting position I have now. I’m so blessed and grateful for this accomplishment but still not defined by it. I know that my career is not who I am. A salary is not who I am. I am defined by the positive force that exists within me. And to be completely honest, I am still taking steps towards my dreams. Accounting is my survival job that I’m using to invest in my calling.

This post is for anyone going to school to have a “plan B” just in case their dream doesn’t make them successful. When you have enough faith in your “plan A” you don’t need plan B.  If I was going to college today, I would choose the major that will bring me closer to my dream. I was great in accounting and math was always my best subject but I knew God was calling me to do something else. Yet, I still decided to get this degree in case my dreams didn’t bring in enough money. I still decided to choose accounting to make certain people proud. But today, I choose me. I choose my imaginations. I choose the huge dreams still planted in my heart. Thankfully, God can still work with my past decisions to bring me the desires of my heart (no regrets).

Many of us have dreams that we don’t have the money for right now. Don’t allow this to be an obstacle. Get a survival job and trust that God would have never given you the vision if he did not have a way to make it happen. (“The Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” -Deuteronomy 31:6) If you’re a student or planning to go to school, be sure you are studying your passion and not just a few courses to make money because money is not fulfillment. Besides ..if it’s your passion, it’s guaranteed to make you rich one day.

PS: This post is not speaking negative about 9 to 5 jobs or accounting. If your 9 to 5 is your passion then there is nothing wrong with keeping it. Don’t allow social media to make you think 9 to 5 jobs are less than great. Not everyone desires entrepreneurship and that is okay.

Love,

Lex
